I may be writing this over a year later, but I think about this book all the time. Gyasi’s debut novel is astounding and thought provoking. A story about two sisters who never know each other, one who is enslaved and one who is able to stay in her native Ghana, and the journeys of their descendants.
I’m always “bookmarking” books away in my mind, with the idea that they might be good options for people to learn about race, generational poverty and systemic oppression. This is one of those bookclub books, that can teach people who aren’t necessarily “ready” to learn, without the head’s up that any kind of mental transformation is coming.
