Queen Unseen: My Life with the Greatest Rock Band of the 20th Century by Peter Hince

I have a strong attachment to Freddie Mercury. There isn’t much rhyme or reason and it is obviously an attachment shared with thousands of other people. I’ve read almost all of the books written about him or by someone who spent time with him (I try not to buy the smut, only get them at the library). It’s been about 12 years since the devotion/love/obsession?/interest/etc began, and I purposely go long, long periods without listening to or thinking about him because…it’s too difficult. I get emotional. It’s weird. I know. Bizarre, ridiculous, silly. Anyway, we all have the “guilty pleasure” parts of our personalities and I’m just forward with mine. It’s Freddie Mercury. I love him. Considering a sleeve tattoo, or a casual knuckle. End of story.

Redefining Realness: My Path to Womanhood, Identity, Love & So Much More by Janet Mock

Not only is this an incredible journey to be able to bear witness to, but Janet Mock can write. It’s excellent. Throughout the book she adds snippets of information and statistics about people in similar circumstances. I somehow started reading her blog back when she originally met her now ex-husband, Aaron, and I remember the amazing and dark posts of them going back and forth. There was so much of her story that was left out of those blog posts, and it was an incredible experience to read about the life experiences she chose to share.
