Before I begin:
What an unfortunate image pairing.
The Ethical Slut: A Guide to Infinite Sexual Possibilities by Dossie Easton, Catherine A. Liszt
Christ, that was not what I was expecting. The final 2/3 of this is more handbook than book. While it was fascinating to read their views, many of the descriptions and things they felt needed to be said were rather obvious or even a bit dated. There were some good quotes (from the book part):
We recomend that when you are in the company of the unfamiliar, you look for unfamiliar wisdom.
Fantastic.
A new piece of knowledge: AFOG —> Another Fucking Opportunity for Growth
You can’t learn from your errors if you always have to be right.
Early emo from Edna St. Vincent Millay:
After all, my erstwhile dear,
My no longer cherished,
Need we say it wasn’t love
Just because it perished?
George Marshall: Defender of the Republic by David L. Roll
Read this book!!!
This is my favorite book of 2019. I have never highlighted so much or teared so much. I may be equally in love with George Marshall as I am with Freddie Mercury. Does a statement like that make you wonder if there is something wrong with me? The answer may be yes. But still, this man deserves the respect and adoration.
MORE COMING but the Kindle notes are too long to sort through in one sitting.
WHY I read this: Marshall’s influence on military leadership from pre- to post- WWII is difficult to understate (being Army Chief of Staff and all), and his values around professional relationships, quickly relieving officers due to failure, and second chances appeal to me.
